Pivoting on my expertise in stochastic structural dynamics and control, I have pioneered the area of structural control of wind energy systems. The transformational impact I had on the field is evidenced from the citations received for the high quality publications in the top journals, several invited talks/keynote addresses delivered in reputed venues, authored book on structural control (in press-Taylor and Francis), funding received from national agencies and EU (FP7, H2020, Horizon Europe) and appointment as the Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier journal Wind Energy and Engineering Research. With the intention of solving open problems related to the science and engineering in the ocean and offshore domain, I undertook my second doctoral studies in Mathematical Physics allowing me address fundamental problems in nonlinear waves and hydrodynamics related to deep offshore floating wind turbines (yet to be fully realised in practise due to several scientific and technical hurdles) and solved challenging partial differential equations (PDEs) by advanced analytical and computational techniques. This recent endeavour of mine has led to three transformational developments in the ocean dynamics and offshore engineering: (1) Following my research on nonlinear water waves, I have achieved a major breakthrough establishing the importance of a new quantity `flowforce. The hydrodynamic analysis I have developed is changing the approach of nonlinear analysis in ocean engineering and of offshore structures. Also, based on multi-disciplinary approaches, I have been able to recreate geophysical fluid dynamics scenarios from historical records which is giving rise to a new field of `geohistorical fluid dynamics'. (2) I am also leading the new field of developing quantum computing algorithms for solving classical problems having a transformational influence on problems that are solved in ocean engineering and oceanography. Hinging on my expertise on dynamics and control, I have developed new algorithms for solving nonlinear PDEs and applied it for solving problems in ocean dynamics such as tephra flow due to submarine volcanoes. I have a H2020 grant (Q-GOS) on implementing my developed quantum algorithms on quantum hardware. (3) I am formulating novel graph theoretic models for ocean dynamics (using interoperable data coupled with socio-ecology) funded by one of my recently EU projects (ECOTWIN) which are revolutionizing the fundamental concept underpinning the digital twin for the ocean. I am leading the development of the European digital twin ocean and collaborating with 4 other EU projects (as requested by the EU Commission) on models and data, which will, for example, have a significant impact on the policy of deployment of offshore wind farm (reconciling with marine protected zones and fisheries). I have championed the development in the field of ocean modelling and ocean renewable (wind) energy by merging classical and emerging techniques (such as structural vibration control strategies, nonlinear hydrodynamics, graph theoretic approaches, quantum computing) to solve challenging and open problems using advanced analytical and computational methods. I am currently considered to be one of the top researchers in the field of offshore wind energy.
