Having taken my undergraduate degree at Trinity, I wrote my Ph.D. on the first-century Jewish historian Flavius Josephus under the supervision of Prof. Sean Freyne. During my doctoral research, I studied at the École Biblique et Archéologique française de Jérusalem and at the Ratisbonne Institute in Jerusalem. I have been working in the area of Hellenistic Judaism, publishing and organising conferences and I am co-editor (with Prof. Honora Chapman) of the Wiley Blackwell Companion to Josephus. Since 2006, I have been Director of Trinity's Centre for Jewish Studies which has offered an extensive public programme of events as well as a Certificate in Holocaust Education. I am now focusing my research on the study of the modern Jewish experience. I am on the editorial Board of the academic journal, 'Zutot: Perspectives on Jewish Culture' and am the web officer for the British and Irish Association for Jewish Studies, having served as President in 2014. My outreach activities have focused on Jewish history and culture as well as Holocaust related education. For a decade I was the Academic Director of the Certificate in Holocaust Education which I developed for Irish educators. I represented Ireland at the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance for a number of years and am currently an advisor for Holocaust Awareness Ireland. I also serve as the Curator of the Weingreen Museum of Biblical Antiquities and am currently involved in a project with Prof. Christine Morris of the Dept of Classics on `Making the Past Visible: Stories from the Weingreen Museum Collections.'
