Kevin O'Rourke is a Professor of Economics at Trinity College Dublin, and President of the European Historical Economics Society. He is a co-organiser of the CEPR's Economic History Initiative, which aims to promote a more 'presentist', quantitative and comparative approach to European economic history. He received his PhD from Harvard in 1989, and has taught at Columbia, Harvard, University College Dublin and Sciences Po Paris. He is also a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research, and a member of the International Advisory Board of the Centre for the Study of Globalisation and Regionalisation at the University of Warwick. He has served as an editor of the European Review of Economic History, as an editorial board member of the Journal of Economic History and World Politics, as a member of the Economic Policy panel, as an Associate Editor of Economics Bulletin, and as a trustee of the Cliometric Society. Kevin O'Rourke has written extensively on the history of globalization, and his Globalization and History (co-authored with Jeffrey G. Williamson) won the 1999 American Association of Publishers/PSP Award for the best scholarly book in economics. Power and Plenty: Trade, War and the World Economy in the Second Millennium, co-authored with Ronald Findlay, was recently published by Princeton University Press. Professor O'Rourke's academic work has been mentioned in such international newspapers as The Economist; New York Times; Sunday Times; Publico (Portugal); Der Spiegel; Le Monde; Le Figaro, International Herald Tribune; The New Statesman; Politiken (Denmark); Wall Street Journal; Newsweek; and in the Irish media. Co-ordinator. The proposal was made on behalf of the Economic History Initiative at the CEPR. The proposal was the only successful economics proposal in this round. The grant is for over €1.7 million. The RTN aims to promote comparative and pan-European economic history, as well as 'presentist' economic history which speaks to today's academic and policy debates.
