Dr Barry Moran runs the Flow Cytometry Facility, within the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute. Flow cytometry is a complex technology used to interrogate the phenotype and function of cells in many areas of life science and biomedical research, including immunology and cancer. It involves sensitive, precision-based cellular analysis of multiple parameters on individual cells at incredibly high speeds. Millions of data points can be generated per second, requiring sophisticated analysis tools. Key infrastructure within TBSI's Flow Cytometry Facility include high-end platforms (high-speed cell sorter, imaging cytometer, high-dimensional spectral analyser) and four advanced cytometer analysers. Dr Moran has a particular interest in immune dysfunction in the skin, primarily in the disease hidradenitis suppurativa.
