Dr Sajjad is a nanomaterial scientist at Trinity College Dublin's School of Chemistry. Sajjad has his B.Sc (2009) and M.Sc (2011) in Industrial Chemistry from India and received his PhD (2016) in Material Sciences from Japan. His research focused on the development of hybrid functional nanomaterials, where he explored some novel and facile self-assembly routes to fabricate organic electronic materials. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow (2017-2018) in Yokohama City University, Japan, where they first time explored ferroelasticity in molecular single crystals. He joined Trinity College Dublin's School of Chemistry (April 2018) on Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Fellowship. Here, he made major innovative contributions in the field of nanopatterning for optics applications, as the lead polymer scientist in a mixed-discipline team. They demonstrated nanopatterned glass substrates with >99% antireflective properties, a commercially valuable result which will be exploited in a start-up company. This work resulted in a patent filing (26/03/2021 - No.2104319.5). Further, he directly collaborated with industry (Malvern Optics Ltd) to adapt this nanopatterning process for anti-reflective sapphire windows and continue to lead tasks in the ~8.3 million Euro industry-academic H2020 SUN-PILOT project, aiming to upscale block-copolymer nanopatterning for anti-reflective surfaces to pilot production. Dr Sajjad has won various national and international fundings and awards and secured more than +1 million Euro research grants. He is serving in editorial boards of different chemical societies and publishing houses.
