Dr. Craig Mc Entee

Research Assistant Professor (Biochemistry)

Having graduated from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) in 2012 with a first class honours degree in Biochemistry with Immunology, I was awarded an Irish Research Council-Enterprise Partnership Scheme Scholarship to undertake a PhD in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at TCD. This work, which had a focus on mucosal vaccine adjuvant discovery, was performed in the Adjuvant Research Group under the supervision of Professor Ed Lavelle at the Trinity Biomedical Sciences Institute. I successfully defended my PhD thesis in September 2016 and continued my research as a Post-doc in the same group until December 2017. In January 2018 I accepted a position as a Research Associate at the University of Manchester, working under the supervision of Professor Mark Travis. Here I investigated novel roles for TGFß-activating integrins in the context of anti-viral memory T cell biology, work I presented at a number of national and international conferences. I also contributed to work published in the Journal of Experimental Medicine, Science and the Journal of Immunology. In February 2021 I was awarded a Marie Sk"odowska-Curie Individual Fellowship by the European Commission to investigate the role of PYHIN family proteins in dendritic cell-mediated regulation of anti-viral memory T cell responses. I undertook this project in the Immune Sensing and Signalling Research Group, led by Prof. Andrew Bowie in the School of Biochemistry and Immunology at TCD and in July 2023 was awarded an eight year University Research Fellowship from The Royal Society to establish my own group at TCD, building on my previous work to investigate how modulating early innate immune responses following viral infection can influence protective memory T cell differentiation and function.
