Dr. Erica Terese Krueger
Research Fellow (Geography)
Research Fellow (Geography)
I am a postdoctoral research fellow in the Coastal Research Group in Geography under the REWRITE project, funded by Horizon EU. My background in coastal environments and oceanic-atmospheric interactions, along with experience in oyster restoration and estuarine ecosystems adds to my current research on climate change mitigation, adaptation, and coastal flood protection in Dublin Bay. I obtained a PhD in geology from Trinity College Dublin in 2024, where my research focused on the development of shelf-edge cold-water corals along the Irish margin, assessment of anthropogenic stressors on skeletal structure biomineralization, and geochemical proxies for palaeoenvironmental reconstruction. I hold a BSc in marine science with a minor in geology and an MSc in environmental science from Florida Gulf Coast University. During my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I worked as a research assistant analysing modern and archaeologic oyster reefs through palaeogeography and salinity indicators to assess resource utilisation of Calusa Native Americans and reef development near Pine Island and on Mound Key, Estero Bay, Florida, USA. I am passionate about science communication and public engagement. Over the years, I've been involved in numerous events to educate the public on the importance of ocean literacy and continued research including Pint of Science, National Ploughing Championships, Féile na Bealtaine, Lego Freddy Adventures, and the award-winning Irish television programme 10Things to Know About.
