I am interested in the mechanisms that drive and regulate the inflammatory response. This includes how the innate immune system detects infections and elicits an immune response. I am also interested in how the innate immune system impacts the adaptive immune response in health and how this is dysregulated in disease. I am interested in how aspects of the innate immune system such as inflammasomes and inflammatory forms of cell death such as pyroptosis drives the pathology of infectious diseases including sepsis. My interest in bacteriology involves finding novel ways to trigger lysis of antibiotic resistant bacterial pathogens to combat the growing threat of antimicrobial resistance. Finally, I am exploring ways how the innate immune system can be harnessed at a therapeutic level to treat a range of infectious diseases caused by viruses, bacteria, and fungi.
