| Biography | |
| My scholarly pursuits centre upon Judaism in the Hellenistic and Roman worlds. My research and teaching interests in this area often times give special attention to new developments in the study of the Dead Sea Scrolls. This area of specialization is the product of my graduate training at Durham University, Tübingen University (Ph.D. Erasmus exchange), and Hebrew University (Rothberg). I completed an MA in Second Temple Jewish Studies in Jerusalem. As part of this training I learned Modern Hebrew, Classical Hebrew, Post-biblical Hebrew, Aramaic, Classical Greek and at Durham added Classical Ethiopic (Ge‘ez). During my nearly four years in Jerusalem I participated in archaeological excavations (Qumran, Wadi Maraba'at) as a volunteer and traveled extensively in the Levant. While studying for a Ph.D. at Durham University I was the recipient of a Lightfoot Scholarship and when I completed my degree was invited to a post-doctoral fellowship in the Centre for Jewish Studies at Durham University (2004-6). The Alexander von Humboldt-foundation recognized my scholarly contributions and ongoing work with an award in 2006, a fellowship that was hosted at the University of Tübingen (Institut für antikes Judentum und hellenistische Religionsgeschichte). Recently I was awarded a National Endowment for the Humanities fellowship to research at the Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in east Jerusalem. While there I am completing a book entitled "The Revelatory Discourse of 4QInstruction." | |

This work focuses on how literary allusion to traditions derived from Genesis influenced formulations and conceptions about gender, the heavenly realm, knowledge and angelic beings. A contribution is made to further understanding the apocalyptic worldview that motivates this ancient wisdom document.] |
