I have a particular interest in research in the area of chronic illness. Chronic Illnesses present major health and life-style challenges for the person who is diagnosed with a chronic condition and for the healthcare service. Moreover, increasing longevity and lifestyle factors point to the likelihood of a significant rise in the number of people living with one or more chronic illnesses. Arising from my doctoral work, research that explicates the experiences of those living with a plethora of chronic illnesses and the burden placed on the individuals, their carers, families and society enables targeted interventions to be developed that not only maximise the individual's potential for self-management but also facilitates an improvement in their life quality.
