My primary research interest is Irish Bardic poetry (1200-1650). I am particularly interested in the language in which these poems are written (Classical Modern Irish) and in the Bardic grammatical tracts, the textbooks used to teach that language at the highest level in the Bardic schools. This interest has inspired a number of philological and linguistic studies on various features of the Irish language (Old, Middle and Modern). My exploration of Bardic poetry has also led me to take an interest in the early history of printing in the Irish language, in which Bardic poetry features prominently. I am currently working on an edition of the poetry of Seifín (or Seithfín) Mór, a fifteenth-century poet, and Irish Grammatical Tracts III-IV (an account of the morphology of verbs and abstract nouns in Classical Modern Irish).
