Dr Linda O'Neill is a Research Fellow with the Trinity Exercise Oncology Research Group. She is a registered physiotherapist and member of the Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP). Dr O'Neill completed her PhD in 2018 which investigated the efficacy of multidisciplinary rehabilitation in oesophago-gastric cancer survivorship. She also holds a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Physiotherapy (RCSI), a Masters (MSc.) in Respiratory Physiotherapy (TCD), a Post-graduate Certificate in Statistics (TCD), and a Special Purpose Certificate in Teaching, Learning, and Assessment for Academic Practice (TCD). She has a keen research interest in exercise oncology, in particular exercise in cancer survivorship. Her work is widely published and she has presented at conferences both nationally and internationally. She currently works as a Project Manager on the HRB/MRCG funded Preoperative Exercise to Improve Fitness in Patients Undergoing Complex Surgery for Cancer of the Lung or Oesophagus (PRE-HIIT) trial and the HRB funded Rehabilitation Strategies following Oesophago-gastric and Hepatopancreaticobiliary Cancer (ReStORe II) trial. In recent years, Dr O'Neill has also specialised in trial methodology research, and currently leads an embedded study within a trial (SWAT) in the ReStORe II trial. She is a Research Associate with the HRB-TMRN, member of the NIHR-TMRP Trial Conduct Working Group, and is currently co-lead of the TMRP Trial Conduct Working Group-Retention Topic Group, and has a supervised a number of student projects in the area of trials methodology research. Dr O'Neill has gained significant experience in undergraduate and post graduate teaching and learning. She is currently a guest lecturer within the Discipline of Physiotherapy, and the MSc in Cancer Survivorship. She has previously been a guest lecturer on TCD's physiotherapy programme in the Singapore Institute of Technology, Assistant Professor in Interprofessional Learning in the School of Medicine in TCD (Sept 2018- Jan 2019), and Special Lecturer/ Clinical Tutor on the Professional Masters in Physiotherapy Programme at University College Dublin (Jan - Sept 2018). Clinically Dr O'Neill has gained experience in a variety of areas including care of the elderly, rheumatology, cardiorespiratory, and oncology. She is an active member of the ISCP, and in recent years has held officer roles on both the Eastern Branch committee and the Chartered Physiotherapists in Oncology and Palliative Care Clinical Interest Group, and is a previous member of the ISCP Research Network committee.
