Dr Eleanor Hollywood is an Associate Professor in Children's Nursing in the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Trinity College Dublin, where she is an established researcher and educator specialising in child and family health and wellbeing. She is a Registered General Nurse (RGN), Registered Children's Nurse (RCN), and Registered Nurse Tutor (RNT) with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland and holds a PhD from Trinity College Dublin alongside an MSc in Nursing Education, a Higher Diploma in Children's Nursing, and a BSc in Nursing. Dr Hollywood has played a significant leadership role within the discipline of children's nursing at Trinity, previously serving as Head of Discipline for Children's Nursing. She has also coordinated postgraduate nursing programmes, including those in specialist nursing and gerontological nursing, and currently serves as Course Director for the micro-credential Childhood Adversity: understanding the impact of childhood adversity on the life of the infant, child, and young person, introduced in 2024. Eleanor's research centres on child consultation with particular focus on hearing the voices of children from disadvantaged areas and marginalised groups. She has extensive experience conducting qualitative and participatory research with children and families across school, hospital, and community contexts, including work with families living within Ireland's International Protection Accommodation Services (IPAS) system.

Domestic abuse is a pattern of coercive, threatening or controlling behaviour used by one person against another within a close or intimidate relationship. Domestic abuse can often include physical, emotional, psychological, sexual or financial abuse and it has significant consequences for large numbers of, mostly female victims, across the globe. Children can be direct or indirect victims of domestic abuse meaning that they can experience abuse themselves at the hands of the perpetrator or that they can be witnesses of the abuse. Living in a home where there is domestic abuse can have a profound negative impact on a child's development. Although a parent might try to shield a child from abuse within the home, research has shown that children have a much higher awareness of abuse than their parents realise. Children of victims of domestic abuse have been found to have worse health outcomes at birth and during early childhood, which puts these children at a disadvantage in life. The aim of this project is to conduct an evaluation of the Where Im At project for Meath Womens Refuge and Support Services (MWRSS).

Meath Women"s Refuge and Support Services (MWRSS) is a domestic violence service for women and children in the Meath area. It was established in 1987 by a group of volunteers and since then it has evolved and developed into the comprehensive service that it is today. The overarching objective of MWRSS is to provide emergency crisis accommodation and supports to women and children who must leave their home due to domestic violence and abuse within the family, and to provide outreach support services to women and children in the community who are experiencing domestic violence and abuse. These services are provided in a caring and non-judgemental environment with the core values of being women and child centred, inclusive, accountable, and trustworthy. In 2022 MWRSS provided refuge accommodation to 57 women and 74 children and worked with 131 children in refuge and in the community, an increase of 42% from the previous year. MWRSS also worked with 131 children in refuge and the community in 2022, an increase of 42% from the previous year. Furthermore, MWRSS increased their counselling services significantly providing 525 sessions to 164 women, 76 sessions of play and music therapy to children, an overall increase of 62% in therapeutic services provided in 2022 compared to 2021 (MWRSS 2023).

Dr Eleanor Hollywood, based at Trinity College Dublin, pursues a research agenda focused on advancing knowledge through interdisciplinary inquiry, critical analysis, and engagement with contemporary academic and societal challenges. Her work is grounded in a commitment to research that is both theoretically robust and practically relevant, contributing to scholarly debate while informing policy, practice, and professional development within her field. Eleanor's research interests include the development and application of innovative participatory methods for use with children in research, the exploration of emerging trends within higher education and professional practice, and the integration of research findings into teaching and curriculum design. She is particularly interested in collaborative and impact-driven research that bridges academic scholarship with real world contexts, fostering meaningful partnerships across institutions, government, NGO's and charity sectors. Her research activity encompasses the publication of peer-reviewed articles, participation in national and international conferences, and involvement in collaborative research initiatives. She is committed to supporting research-led teaching and mentoring student researchers, encouraging the development of independent inquiry and critical scholarship at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Through sustained engagement with evolving research questions and methodologies, Eleanor aims to contribute to the advancement of knowledge, the enrichment of academic discourse, and the cultivation of innovative, evidence-based approaches within her discipline. Eleanor is driven by her belief in the transformative power of nursing and strives to advance healthcare for children, young people and their families through nursing research, education, innovation, empathy and practice.
