| Born in Melbourne, Australia, 1948; educated at the University of Melbourne and Trinity College, Cambridge; research fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford, and Melbourne; lecturer, associate professor, and professor at Trinity College, Dublin, since 1979; visiting fellow at several universities in Australia and at Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario; author of five books and various other works, of which some recent examples are listed below; married, with four children. | |
