Professor Margaret O'Mahony

Chair of Civil Engineering (Civil Struct & Env. Eng.)

Professor Margaret O'Mahony holds the Chair (Full Professor) of Civil Engineering (1842) at Trinity College Dublin. Her qualifications include a degree in civil engineering from NUI (Galway) and a doctorate in engineering science from the University of Oxford. She is a Chartered Engineer (Fellow) of Engineers Ireland, a member of the Irish Academy of Engineers and is also chartered with the Institution of Civil Engineers in the UK. She has served as Head of the Engineering School, Head of the Department of Civil, Structural & Environmental Engineering and Bursar at TCD. As Director of the Centre for Transport Research, she has coordinated or worked as Principal Investigator on a large number of research contracts funded by the EU and national research agencies to the order of €7 million. In addition to her academic contributions, she has served on the Board of the Railway Procurement Agency and the National Roads Authority.
