1) Medical and Scientific Interests: Paediatrics and Neonatology, Inflammation, Cancer biology,Clinical Diagnostics and Therapeutics Cancer biology. Platelet cloaking in cancer systems. Circulating tumour cells and their evasion of the patient immune system. Infection, Immunology and Inflammation. Single cell analysis in clinical samples. Translational "Bench to Bedside" Research. Personalized medicine. Identification of novel biomarkers 2) Technical Interests: Fluorescent Imaging and High Content Analysis My technical interests include imaging techniques coupled with High Content Screening and Analysis. HCSA encompasses automation imaging (BF, fluorescent and confocal of which I have extensive experience) coupled with highly detailed visualization and analysis of the morphological and structural properties of cells and their organelles. I have done extensive work on molecular translocation and morphological studies in cancer systems such as colon, cervical, ovarian, thyroid and cancer stem cells. I also recently began analysis of patient samples with these techniques. 3) Technology Interests: Bio/Micro Fluidics and Fluorescent Design and Instrument Integration Throughout the PASCA project I became highly involved and interested in bio/micro fluidic technology. The project involved the development of a "drop on demand" automated robotic instrument coupled to a micro fluidic chip (containing the cellular/clinical sample) capable of printing picoliter sized droplets containing single cells. I assisted our partners in testing the chips performance in order to improve filling and reduce clogging effects in the fluidic inlet which hampers performance. I also reported on chip printing efficiency with regards to droplet dispensation volume, droplet velocity and accuracy of printing stability and reproducibility. I also performed enabling fluorescent experiments (use of fluorescent beads, labeled and stained cells and clinical samples) on high content analysis and confocal microscopy in order to identify sensitivity and limits of detection for fluorescent development to the PASCA technology. I travelled to our EU engineering partners and assisted fluorescent trouble shooting and integration.
