Silvia Giordani was born in Bergamo (Italy) in 1973. After obtaining a "Laurea" from the University of Milano, she moved to the University of Miami (USA) where she received the Maytag Fellowship that supported her graduate studies, under the supervision of Prof. Fran├žisco Raymo. After being awarded a PhD in Chemistry, she joined the group of Prof. Werner Blau in Trinity College Dublin with a Marie Curie Fellowship. She then successfully applied for a Marie Curie re-integration grant to work in Prof. Maurizio Prato's group at the University of Trieste (2006-2007). She has been awarded the SFI's "President of Ireland Young Researcher Award" (PIYRA) and in September 2007 she joined the School of Chemistry at Trinity College Dublin as research lecturer. Her research interests focus on synthesis of molecular switches and functionalisation of carbon nanotubes.
