Dr. Brendan O'Kelly is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at Trinity College Dublin and is a lead member of the Geotechnics Research Group. Brendan, a Chartered Engineer and Chartered Environmentalist, is a specialist in geotechnical and geoenvironmental engineering and the earth sciences with over 20 years experience in research, development and consultancy. Brendan was made a Fellow of Trinity College Dublin in 2010. Brendan has a broad range of research interests, both of a fundamental and applied nature, including: (i) Novel ground improvement techniques including (a) Design approach for improving rampart roads over peat deposits using the vacuum consolidation technique funded by the National Roads Authority; (b) soil improvement by grouting including nano/biogrout funded by the Irish Research Council; (c) reduction of the long-term compressibility of peat deposits by a pre-decomposition technique funded by the Public Service Department, Government of Malaysia; (ii) fundamental studies on the principal of effective stress as applied to organic soils funded by the Irish Research Council; (iii) characterization and measurement of the geotechnical properties of municipal wastes, in particular biosolids and water treatment residues. Brendan has authored over 100 technical publications since 2003, which includes 50 full papers, 4 Discussion articles and 1 Closure article in high impact international journals.
