Dr. Mark Prendergast

Assistant Professor (Education)
ARTS BUILDING

I joined Trinity College Dublin in September 2014 as an Assistant Professor in Mathematics Education. Prior to this I qualified as a second level mathematics teacher from the University of Limerick in 2007 and completed a PhD in Mathematics Education, also in the University of Limerick, in 2011. Upon graduating I worked in the National Centre for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching and Learning (NCE-MSTL) and also co - ordinated the Mathematics Leaning Centre in the University of Limerick. In my current role in Trinity College, I have responsibility for the mathematics education strands of the Professional Master of Education (PME) and Master in Education (M.Ed.) programmes. I am also joint co-ordinator of the overall PME programme. My research interests lie primarily in mathematics teacher education, the teaching and learning of algebra, and evaluating the recent reform to the second level mathematics curriculum in Ireland. I am also particularly interested in promoting student interest and achievement in mathematics through effective teaching of the subject.
