Dr Gessica De Angelis is Assistant Professor of Applied Linguistics in the Centre for Language and Communication Studies, and she is Fellow of Trinity College Dublin. Her main research interests are in Second/Third Language Acquisition, cross-linguistic influence, multilingual language development, multilingualism and education. Dr. De Angelis is author of "Third or Additional Language Acquisition" (2007, Multilingual Matters). She is also co-editor of "New Trends in Crosslinguistic Influence and Multilingualism research" (2011, Multilingual Matters), "Learning and teaching in multilingual contexts. Conceptual, sociolinguistic and educational perspectives (2014, Multilingual Matters) and "Crosslinguistic influence and crosslinguistic interaction in multilingual language learning" (2015, Bloombsbury). She is former Vice-President of the International Association of Multilingualism (2009-11; 2011-2013).

My research on multilingualism investigates the internal and external factors that affect the language acquisition process, with special emphasis on crosslinguistic influence phenomena and the overall cognitive benefits associated with the knowledge of multiple languages.
